Student Life Committee (SLC)

The Senate Student Life Committee is responsible for advocacy and legislation related to student life at RPI, including student rights, safety, the Student Experience division, and anything not within the authority of another Senate committee.

Jurisdiction

Per the Senate bylaws, Article IX, Section 13, the following are under the explicit jurisdiction of the Student Life Committee:

• Student rights
• Quality of life and well-being
• Title IX policy and student safety
• The Rensselaer Handbook of Student Rights and Responsibilities
• The Division of Student Experience portfolio, including fraternity and sorority life
• Other campus advocacy areas not already within the jurisdiction of another committee¹

Past Projects

55th Student Senate

Chair: Ria Massoni

• Established Title IX and bystander intervention training requirements for club officers²
• Collaborated with the Dean of Students Office to make a number of changes to the Handbook of Student Rights and Responsibilities³
• Expanded Union organizations' rights in judicial proceedings⁴
• Worked with the Dean of Students Office to address students being drugged at off-campus events⁵
